Friday, 20 March 2026
Spring equinox
Day = night, sunrise / sunset due East / West.
Sunday, 21 June 2026
Summer solstice (N)
Longest day in the Northern Hemisphere, latest sunset.
Tuesday, 22 September 2026
Autumn equinox
Balanced light, ideal for landscape work.
Monday, 21 December 2026
Winter solstice (N)
Shortest day in the Northern Hemisphere, lowest sun arc.
Planning tips
- Two months before solstice — start scouting locations whose composition depends on solstice-only sun angles (e.g. light shafts through canyons).
- One week before equinox — sunrise / sunset directions hit near due East / West. Useful for street-grid alignments (Manhattanhenge, Chicagohenge, etc.).
- Around the December solstice — golden hour stretches the longest at mid-latitudes. The sun barely climbs above 25° in Central Europe / US.
